Directions and Getting There

As it is getting closer to the day, all of you should have your outfits sorted by now, so it's just a case of getting to the venue. So here are some directions:

Coming from Cape Town

  1. From the N2, take the Baden Powell turn-off onto the R310

  2. Turn right at the traffic lights just past Welmoed winery, onto Annandale Road

  3. Follow Annandale Road until the traffic lights on the R44

  4. Turn left onto the R44. The turn-off to the venue is on the right, so you will have to drive to the next set of traffic lights to do a u-turn, so you are travelling towards Somerset West

  5. The turn-off is now on the left, as the road goes downhill and bends to the left. The turn is just past a caravan park, and look for the "Stellenrust" and "Graceland" signs. The turn is in a patch of pine trees, and is a little hidden, so we suggest slowing into the yellow.

  6. Once onto the gravel road, keep going a little way. The turn-off to Stellenrust is on the left, and then follow the signs to the venue.

If you're coming from Stellenbosch, get on the R44 going towards Somerset West, and follow directions 5 and 6.

Here is the map to the venue, taken from the Stellenrust website:

If anyone is looking for a taxi to get there or home, Stellenbosch Tourism recommend Adventure Centre on 021 8828112, or we have also found the following: Daksi Cab on 082 8541541

See everyone there at 15:00 this Saturday.

Counting Down

So it's getting much closer to departure time and wedding (have a look on the handy countdown timer to see exactly how many days, hours and minutes before the "I do's" are said).
Hope fully everyone has their flights and accommodation sorted, both in Cape Town and Stellenbosch if needs be. If not, have a look at the links below. Once again, please let us know when you are expecting to arrive, especially those of you who might need fetching from the airport.

If you are all organised, and none of this applies to you, and are wondering how to fill some time, why not have a look at the handy wedding gift list (number 400385) we have set up with John Lewis, a UK based department store. We appreciate that the wedding is taking place at the furthest point of Africa, so are not expecting gifts, and do not want anyone to feel obliged. However, there have been inquiries into a registry, so we thought it best to set up something here, as it is more convenient for all involved. We are just happy to have everyone there, and are looking forward to a great party (that includes all the days we are going to be there).

See you all soon, and the first person to comment on this blog gets a Savannah. (Hi Arlene)

Some Places to Stay

As we are getting closer to the wedding weekend, we are aware people need to finalise some plans, so with that in mind, here is a link for guesthouses in Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is relatively small, so most of these guesthouses will be in close proximity to the town centre. For those of you who do not have accommodation in Cape Town with friends or family, we recommend staying in Stellenbosch for the evening of the wedding (or longer if you feel like it), as it is a way to travel back into Cape Town late at night. Please let us know if you do decide to stay over in Stellenbosch, as we are looking to arrange a taxi from the wedding reception into Stellenbosch, and it would help if we knew numbers.

We are aware that some of you might not have family to stay with, so here, here and here are links for accommodation in Cape Town, focusing on the Southern Suburbs area (where we live). The ideal areas to stay in would be Claremont, Rondebosch, Kenilworth or Newlands. These are all close to where we will be based and also not far from the city centre and attractions.

It is pretty much impossible to see Cape Town without a car, as it is quite spread out and public transport is not great . There are several car hire companies at the airport, including international companies like Avis and Hertz so you can sort that out on arrival or beforehand.

We'd love to know when everyone is planning on arriving and departing so we can try to organised some gatherings besides the wedding, and spend some time with you all. So if you could drop us an email letting us know that would be great. See you all soon!

Hello

Yes, we are finally getting hitched, married, tying the knot. We are aiming for the blog to be a place where we can provide as much information about the big day as possible. We know a lot of you are coming from far away, and are not native to this fine city, so will try and provide some helpful local insight about places to stay, things to do, and perhaps not to do in Cape Town and the surrounds.

As far as we know, the hen / stag nights are going to be the weekend before the wedding (the 3rd and 4th of April), so it would be great if people could be around for that. We will be in Cape Town until the 19th of April, so if anyone is staying on later, we will be around.

Below are some links to get us started:

The venue is Stellenrust, just outside Stellenbosch, and the website can be found here. As the wedding is going to be held a little way from Cape Town, we shall look for suitable B&B's in the area, and those will go up here in a little while, but in the interim visit the Stellenbosch tourism website.

If anyone has any questions, either of us can be contacted here: pamannsteele@gmail.com, or laubscher.coetzee@gmail.com.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, don't forget to send us your RSVPs (those are the postcards included)

Most of those fortunate enough to crack the nod would have received their invites by now, and should have spotted the symbol embossed on the front.
This is a traditional west African symbol called "The Moon and the Star", and it represents love, faithfulness and harmony. It depicts the North Star waiting for her husband the Moon. Isn't that sweet.

As things stand, there are only going to be five people at the wedding, and one of these is not old enough to drink...anything but his mothers milk. So send those RSVPs back. We understand you might want to keep the pretty pictures of Cape Town, but we want them too. Also, Pam wants post that doesn't come from one of our 'service' providers.
